The OR bundle consists of surgical equipment and devices used on a regular basis in the operating room. Some of the equipment in the OR bundle will be used to clean and sterilize these devices to prepare them to be used on the next patient.
The Nasopharngeal Scope is inserted into the nose and views the inside of this area for growths and abnormalities.
The gastroscope is a flexible tube that has the ability to inspect the inside of the stomach.
The arthoscope is an instrument that is inserted through a small incision and this gives the surgeon the ability to see the inside of a joint such as the knee.
The Automatic Endoscopic Reprocessor is a larger piece of equipment that utilizes modern technology to effectively clean flexible scopes after they have been used and to sterilize them prior to using with the next patient.
The equipment for the sentinel node biopsy will enhance our current breast-screening program and is used to improve the accuracy of breast cancer staging in recently diagnosed patients. It allows surgeons to inject a dye or radioactive substance into a tumor and this dye then flows into the sentinel nodes, the first nodes that cancer is likely to spread to from the primary tumor. A surgeon then uses a gamma probe (scanner) to find the sentinel node and surgically removes it.
